CODE RED EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION

The City of Vandalia has implemented the CodeRED™ emergency notification system. CodeRED™ is an extremely high-speed emergency telephone communication service that can deliver customized pre-recorded emergency messages directly to the homes and businesses within the city at the rate of up to 60,000 calls per hour.

 The CodeRED™system contacts residential phone subscribers who have listed numbers. Businesses must add their information to the database. If you have an unlisted number, business number, cell phone or you wish to have notification made to a secondary number please click on the CodeRED™ icon above to add your information.

CodeRED™ can be used to notify residents and businesses of evacuations, hazardous chemical situations, fire and flood disasters, power or utility interruptions, water boil alerts, missing children, shelter placements, possible major weather disasters, terrorism alerts or other emergency situations. Notifications can be made city-wide or to geographic targeted areas, depending on the situation.

The CodeRED system uses a blend of technologies – computer-generated mapping (GIS), database technologies, and a high-speed dialer – to allow a public safety official to quickly select a population, create a message and deliver the message to the affected populace. It then delivers a recorded message to a live person or an answering machine, making three attempts to connect to any number.

CodeRED™ can alert thousands of people simultaneously and can contact cell phones or pager numbers if requested. It assures that everyone gets accurate and clear information and reduces the demand on emergency personnel.
